During a complete refurbishment it can be preferable for lighting circuits to be wired back to a central location. The RAK 4 system enables the seamless integration of both centrally wired and locally wired lighting control. A RAK4 system consists of two components: the RAK4 module and RX-Link receiver. The RAK4 module is a 2.5kW four-channel dimming module that can be configured effectively for any load or lighting type. Each channel of the RAK4 module can be programmed to operate in ‘leading edge’ or ‘trailing edge’ mode, with a maximum load of 1.5kW for a single channel. All standard RCP keypads and interfaces communicate wirelessly with the RAK 4 via the RX-Link. This compact RF receiver connects to the RAK4 by means of Cat 5 cable, allowing the RAK4 modules to be located anywhere within the property. Each RX-Link can control up to four RAK modules or sixteen channels. Additional RAK 4 modules and RX-Link units can be added as required. The true value of the system is its flexibility. A lighting designer can decide whether table lamps and floor lamps are controlled through dedicated “5amp” circuits, (routed through a RAK4) or locally controlled via RD “in-line” modules. Utilising Rako’s proprietary Rakom coded RF control and with over 980,000 individual operational addresses (House/Room/Channel) the largest of schemes can be readily accommodated. The RAK4 system marks a significant development in lighting control and design. It allows individual lighting requirements to dictate wiring structure rather than the control system itself.
